Believe: A New Column at Raw Silk Living

0 Comments 21 February 2013

We are pleased to introduce our new column here at Believe.

Amid the given uncertainty of life circumstances and experiences, most individuals struggle to some degree with a search for contentment along the way. With the gradual unfolding of time. With what one desires and what one actually has now. With a longing to live the life one has imagined. With a need to be fulfilled, make a difference in the world, and live with joy, gratitude, and compassion.

From the seemingly frivolous to the profoundly deep, one’s belief system forms the mental framework for how one perceives this world and one’s life within it. In this column, we hope to share uplifting thoughts, questions, and explorations about what it means to believe.

As a couple, we believe in love. We believe in simple. And, yes, we believe in Valentine’s Day. This year, staying true to these beliefs, we set a $10 gift limit.

While in the craft store shopping for the children’s Valentine’s parties, I happened upon these three stones. At $2.99 each, I actually had a dollar to spare and the perfect gift. An invaluable gift. Daily reminders to believe in us.

Believe Rocks

“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” —Audrey Hepburn

“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal away your sweetness. Take pride that even though the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.” —Kurt Vonnegut

“You have to imagine it possible before you can see something. You can have the evidence right in front of you, but if you can’t imagine something that has never existed before, it’s impossible.” —Rita Dove

“Humility is the foundation of humanity….When you genuflect, when you reach out to someone, when you embrace them, when you’re empathetic, that’s you’re humanity. We’re here together. It’s what the DNA is telling us. We all come from one family. And it’s the most important thing we can do to give one another a feeling of togetherness.” —Wynton Marsalis

“Why is it that some people seem to have peace of mind every day?” —from an Elder’s Meditation

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” —Melody Beattie

“Everything comes gradually and at its appointed hour.” —Ovid

We can learn great things from every soul, storm, and rainbow. The greatest of these is that we belong to each other, and we have everything when we have faith, hope, and love.

So happy you are here!
